Description

This house was once the residence of a family that measured tribute grains for the Ryukyu Kingdom. It was built around 1861. The building has a length of 14.5 meters and a width of 7.3 meters. It is a one-storied wooden building with a hipped roof and red tiles. On the southwest side are "ichiban-za"(a guest room) and "niban-za"(an altar room) side by side, both 8.2 square meters in size, "ura-za"(a back room) on the east side, and "sanban-za"(the living room) and kitchen on the north side. It has the form of a traditional Okinawan house, with "amahaji"(extending eaves) supported by Chinese black pine pillars around its perimeter.
