A village blessed with the sea and mountains, brimming with historical spirit
Onna Village is located on the west coast of the central region of Okinawa Island, with Cape Maeda, famous for its blue cave, in the southern area of the village, and Manzamo, one of the most scenic spots on the main island, in the village’s central area. Considered one of the top resort areas in Japan, Onna boasts a coastline with beautiful coral reefs and other tourism resources that has earned it the nickname “the West Coast of Okinawa Island”. Many cultural assets from the Gusuku Period 3,507 years ago still remain here as well, and in an effort to convey the culture and lifestyle of the past to present generations, Ryukyu Village, a theme park that showcases Okinawan culture and nature, has been created and old buildings from various parts of the Ryukyu Islands have been relocated here. Within the village, there are traditional houses with red roof tiles, registered as National Tangible Cultural Properties, and you can watch powerful performances of the traditional Eisa dance, try your hand at creating traditional Okinawan crafts that have been passed down since ancient times, and even take pictures with water buffalo. Being here will make you feel as if you are in old Ryukyu times, so please experience it for yourself.
